The Development of Training Courses According to the Buddhist Teachings to Promote the Ability to Comply with the Threefold Training for the Newly Ordained Monks

Abstract

The research article consisted of the following objectives: 1) to develop the training course according to the Buddhist teachings to promote the ability to comply with the Threefold Training for newly ordained monks; and 2) to study the effectiveness of training course according to the Buddhist teachings to promote the ability to comply with the Threefold Training for newly ordained monks. The study applied Research and Development method. The research instruments consisted of training course, learning achievement test, assessment form on the ability to comply with the Threefold Training, and satisfaction form. The statistics used to analyze data were mean, standard deviation (S.D.), and t-test. From the study, it is found as follows: 1) The training course according to the Buddhist teachings to promote the ability to comply with the Threefold Training for newly ordained monks consists of 6 components which are (1) principles and reasons, (2) objectives of the program, (3) contents of the program, (4) training activities, (5) media and learning source, and (6) assessment and evaluation; 2) The effectiveness of the developed training course is found as follows: (1) On learning achievement, the posttest is higher than that of pretest with a statistical significance at 0.05 level, (2) On the ability to comply with the Threefold Training, the posttest is higher than that of pretest with a statistical significance at 0.05 level, and (3) the newly ordained monks have satisfaction towards the training course overall at a high level (x ̅= 4.22, S.D. = 0.64).
