Abstract

The research article consisted of the following objectives: 1) to develop the instructional model based on the Buddhist teachings to promote problem-solving ability for the upper secondary school students and 2) to study the effectiveness of the instructional model based on the Buddhist teachings to promote problem-solving ability. A sample group included 1 classroom of the 6th secondary school students of Thung Yai Wittayakhom School of the 2nd semester in academic year B.E. 2562, in a total of 36 persons. The research instruments were 1) learning management plan, 2) test on the ability for problem-solving, 3) learning achievement test, 4) the behavior of group work assessment form, and 5) satisfaction survey form. The statistics used for content analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation (S.D.), and t-test. From the study, it is found as follows: 1. The instructional model based on the Buddhist teachings to promote problem-solving ability consists of 4 components: 1) important principles of a model; 2) objectives of a model; 3) activities consisting of 4 steps which are (1) building Kalyāṇamitta (good friend), (2) applying the Buddhadhamma to solve problem by adopting the RPUT model i.e., R stands for Right Thinking, P stands for Process Thinking, U stands for Useful Thinking, and T stands for Thinking, (3) presenting and reflecting the ideas, (4) summarizing the obtained concepts; and 4) assessment and evaluation. 2. The effectiveness of the developed model found that 1) on the ability to solve problem, the posttest with a criterion of 80 has a statistical significance at 0.05 level; 2) the learning achievement of posttest is higher than that of pretest with a statistical significance at 0.05 level; 3) the behavior of students overall and each group is at a high level (x ̅ = 3.68, S.D. = 0.48); and 4) the satisfaction overall is at a high level (x ̅ = 4.24, S.D. = 0.63).
