A Needs Assessment to Strengthen Collective Leadership Of Thai Primary School Administrators

Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to study characteristics of collective leadership of Thai primary school administrators, 2) to study current states and desirable conditions of collective leadership of Thai primary school administrators, and 3) to analyse necessary needs in establishing collective leadership of Thai primary school administrators. The researcher used the research and development process. The representative samples were 758 persons of school administrators and teachers. There were two phrases conducted in the current study. The first phrase was designed to study characteristics of collective leadership of Thai primary school administrators and there were 7 participants involved. This was to analyse and reconfirm the characteristics of the collective leadership, employing a focus group discussion. The second phrase was developed to study current states and desirable conditions of collective leadership of Thai primary school administrators. The multi-method to be used in this research is questionnaire and discus group were the tools. Content analysis and mean (gif.latex?\bar{x} ), Percentage and S.D to be used for the data analysis, the quantitative research to be used for this field and Modified Priority Needs Index (PNI).


          The results revealed that: 1) there were needs of 5 characteristics of collective leadership, sharing vision, transformation, collective decision making, team building and leader exchange. 2) The overall of the desirable conditions of the collective leadership was considered “really high while the current state was just “high”. 3) For the necessary needs of the collective leadership, the results suggest that the collective leadership development program was needed, the indexes can be ranged from high to low as followings – leader exchange , sharing vision, transformation, collective decision making and team building.
