Utilization of Facebook Page for Peace of Monasteries in Eastern Thailand

Abstract
This research article aimed to study the utilization of facebook page for peace of the monasteries in Eastern Thailand. The research method was mixed between quantitative and qualitative techniques. 255 quantitative samples were selected from 643 population based on Taro Yamane’s sampling design and the qualitative target group consisted of 8 monasteries representing each province in the Eastern region and 3 experts. The data were collected from the facebook pages and in-depth interview, and analyzed by frequency, percentage, average, and content analyses.
Research results:
- Quantitatively, there were 626,368 followers of facebook page at average of 2,456. Wat Samanrattanaram, the monastery was followed the most with 83,748 and 13.37 percentage. When, considered the average of each picture, Wat Huangpattana was mostly liked with 83.40 per picture.
- Qualitatively, the usage of facebook page was conducted for peace because it did not offend the law, monastic order and social norm, on the other hand aimed for the social benefit and religious messages. The most distributed content concerned with the monasteries’ activities in order to give the correct information and invitation. The reason to use was because its broadly propagation, economical, convenient, speed and two-way communication.
However, the page was generally considered as a double blade which deepened on the user own objective and was not a must to all monasteries.
