The Participatory Management Model for the Development Scientific Mind in Gifted Students at Princess Chulabhorn’ College in Loei Province

Abstract

The research article consisted of the following objectives: 1) to investigate the scientific mind in gifted students; 2) to create the participatory management model for the development of scientific mind in students; and 3) to experiment the learning package for the development of scientific mind in students. The study employed research and development (R&D) method. The target group of qualitative method consisted of school administrators, teachers, and scientific experts, for a total of 7 persons. For quantitative method, the target group included the first secondary school students at Princess Chulabhorn's College in Loei Province, for a total of 192 persons. A total of 60 persons were chosen as a sample group, with 30 in the experimental group and 30 in the control group.


From the study, the following results are found: 1) Prior to the development of the scientific mind in gifted students in three areas, they are as follows: (1) bonding with the role of scientific students, with 33 students performing at a low level, 29 students performing at a moderate level, and 34 students performing at a high level; (2) identity of scientific students, with 28 students performing at a low level, with 36 students performing at a moderate level, and 32 students performing at a high level; (3) the behavior of pursuing scientific knowledge, with 79 students performing at a low level and 17 students performing at a moderate level, 2) The participatory management model for the development of scientific mind in gifted students comprises 4 steps, as follows: (1) co-planning for activity design; (2) co-developing learning package; (3) co-organizing learning activity; and (4) co-assessing learning outcomes, and 3) The learning package for the development of scientific mind in students reveals that students in the experimental group have posttest of scientific mind that is higher than pretest, both overall and in each aspect, with a statistical significance of 0.05 level.
