Abstract

The article of research aimed to present the results of the safe use of the special light air paramotor based on the Buddhist peaceful means. The research was an action research by means of in-depth interviews with 4 groups of key informants in a total number of 20 persons, focus group discussion with 6 persons, and a model was used to practice with 15 special light air parameter pilots by using both quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed and summarized using the inductive method.

The results of research were found that the creation of the process for enhancing the pilots' safety competency based on the Buddhist peaceful means started by having Sati (Mindfulness) and Yonisomanasikāra (Thorough Attention), namely, an awareness of the life values in order to realize the values of having mindfulness in considering the related factors to safety competency. As well as, having Kalyāṇamitta (Good Friends) to look out for each other’s safety and to check safety competency based on the doctrine on Iddhipāda (Four Paths of Accomplishment). The process of enhancing the pilots’ safety competency based on the Buddhist peaceful means consisted of 7 processing phases. The study and synthesis acquired a practice model called “SAPK” which consisted as follows: S - Satipaṭṭhāna (Four Foundations of Mindfulness) by having mindfulness, awareness, and contemplation of the body and mind; A – Awareness of life values through listening to Dhamma media in order to realize the importance of having mindfulness before starting to take off; P – Professional referred to the expertise which included ability and skills in safety competency by using the equipment inspection form and checking for its readiness regularly; and K - Kalyāṇamitta by being a good friend with the trainer and fellow pilots including giving advice and warnings for safe flying. The results acquired from the practice model allowed the special light air paramotor pilots to have carefulness in checking the equipment, the surrounding and weather conditions as well as having carefulness in both physical and mental health.
