Strengthening a Decision-Making Process of Women’s Aesthetic Plastic Surgery by The Buddhist Peaceful Means

Abstract

Abstract


            This research has aimed to 1) To study problems in the decision-making process towards plastic surgery of women in Thai society 2) To study the strengthening of decision making process towards women's plastic surgery by peaceful means 3) To present the strengthening of a decision-making process on women’s plastic surgery by Buddhist peaceful means. This research is qualitative with used methods of studying documents, conducting a field work by an in-depth interview of the key informants which are categorized into 4 groups of 18 people and a focus group discussion of 10 experts.


            From the research, it is found the followings:


  1. Women’s plastic surgery in the present Thai society has found the following major problems: 1) complication from the surgery or medicine 2) disability 3) death which caused by medical service provider, medical service receiver and surgery business place.

  2. Decision-making process towards women's plastic surgery has got 5 steps: 1) Define scope/importance of decision-making 2) Collect all choices 3) Study and define the scope of each choice 4) Decide to choose the best choice 5) Evaluate the result of decision-making and the peaceful means in usage of the decision-making process are mindfulness (Sati), hearing from others (Paratoghosa) and critical reflection (Yonisomanasikāra).

            3.The inducing of Buddhist peaceful means to assist in the decision-making process towards women's plastic surgery, there are the 4 points of making good traits: 1) good personality including good/healthy body, neat/polite/appropriate wearing, good posture of moving and walking, and good manner 2) Good behavior including doing good physically, verbally and mentally 3) Good mind including to love and to be kind, being gratitude, friendly, and has a good feeling to oneself and others 4) Good wisdom including enlightenment, being conscious.
