Buddhadasabikkhu: The 2nd determination for mutual understanding between religions to support peace to Thai society

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to study "Buddhadasa Phikkhu: the second determination that is understanding between religions to promote peace in Thai society. The study uses methods of studying and researching from related documents by classifying, compiling, summarizing the important information and analyze content by dividing the content into 3 parts which are 1) problems and obstacles for understanding between religions, 2) religious points: the goal of inter-religious understanding, and 3) principles of Buddhism for interreligious understanding in order to promote peace in Thai society. The second determination is to make understanding inter-religion according to Buddhadasa Bhikkhu's perspective, it is found that inter-religious understanding has two problems and obstacles, namely 1) bias, and attachment 2) eating, sensual desire, praise and obstacles to understanding between religions directly. As for the common points of religious goals, there are two goals for understanding between religions: 1) breaking selfishness and 2) creating peace on a personal and social level. And with respect to the Buddhist doctrine of understanding between religions, there are 2 ways: 1) Right understanding: creating new religious consciousness 2) Compassionate principles: Buddhist doctrine creates inter-religious understanding and creates peace in co-existence between religions in Thai society.
