The Strategy for Development of Research Competencies of Teacher in Pakse Teacher Training Colleges, Lao PDR

Abstract
This study aimed: 1) to study the components of the teacher’s research competencies 2) to develop the strategies for development of teacher’s competencies and 3) to assess the strategies for development of research competencies of Teacher in Pakse Teacher Training Colleges, Lao PDR. The research procedure was divided into 3 steps as follows: 1) Studying the component of the teacher’s research competencies 2) Developing the strategy 3) Assessing the strategies. The research’s informants included 7 researches expert, 15 researches administrator of Pakse Teacher Training College and 252 teachers in Pakse Savannakhet and Saravan Teacher Training Colleges. Research instrument included in-depth interview form, Questionnaire and Assessment form. Data were analyzed using statistical analysis of exploratory factor analysis , mean and standard deviation. The research findings were as follows: There were 7 components of the Teachers’ research competency which included (1) Basic research knowledge (2) The ability to do composite research (3) The drafting of Research proposal (4) The management of the research project (5) The characteristics of the researcher (6) The researcher ethics( 7) The context of the Teacher Training Colleges. The strategies for development of research competency of teachers in Pakse Teachers College consisted of 9 strategies, namely: (1) Enhancing knowledge and capability of research competency of teachers. (2) Supporting and promoting research results in various forms. (3) Strengthen teachers as researchers with morality and research ethics. (4) Encouraging the use of research results to develop teaching and learning and to apply them effectively. (5) Encouraging research to be published in both domestic and international journals. (6) Creating motivation in conducting research. (7) Improving the research support system. (8) Developing the information technology system to promote research and academic writing for teachers. And (9) Supporting and promoting external research cooperation. The strategic assessment result show that the strategy’s consistency suitability, feasibility, and utility were found to be consistent at a high level
