The Buddhist Way to Use Online Social Media of Student in Chaturapakpiman Ratchadapisek School

Abstract
This research has been a qualitative research, the objectives of this research were to study students’ circumstances of using social online media, study Buddhist teachings relevant to using the preceding media, and propose the Buddhist ways on using them. The research methodology was qualitative. The data were collected through in-depth interview. The key informants were ten Buddhist monks, including Buddhist academicians and 30 students at the target school. The data were analyzed and presented by way of analytical description.
The results of research were found that the challenges of using them to be unknowingly keeping abreast of fake news, addicting obscene media, and lacking consciousness in usage. The effects to students include: physical health, education, no social interactions, and negative behaviors out of imitating figures on their social online media. The Buddhist way on using social online media was awareness of faculties that culminates in students’ self-control so that they do not fall prey to such media. Another ways to learn Buddhism’s Kalama Sutta as the pre-emptive device to help prevention the students from absorbing pieces of fake news widely spread on social online media. It was absolutely necessary to analyze effects of social online media following ‘Buddhism’s rule of complete attention. Undertaking analyses step by step is: first, investigating arising causes; next, searching for actual facts; then, distinguishing between strong and weak points to understand them. So three complete facts were obvious, namely contribution and grave consequences, ways out of challenges, and solutions. These Buddhist ways on using their social online media was definitely likely to have students keep abreast of their social online media, resulting in their conscious awareness, disciplines, right understanding, and students’ progression to be equipped with intellectual and moral thoughts.
