The Development of Public Participation for the basic Infrastructure in Champasak district, Lao PDR

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to investigate the public participatory model of the fundamental infrastructures in Champasak, Lao PDR.  The target group consisted of the relevant people in Champasak in the number of 400.  The target population consisted of 400 Champasak residents, 10 experts in participatory model, and 15 research scholars in the study. The research instruments used were questionnaires, dialogue records, and evaluation forms.  Data was analyzed using means, standard deviation, and content analysis.


          The research findings showed the target population participation in fundamental infrastructures development comprised of three economy dimensions. There were 1) to enhance the marketing system and transportation when making a decision of products and trade route management to meet the highest quality under some circumstances, 2) to increase the ability in the market competition and the sustainable development of the economy from agriculture to industry.  Industry was the major key to upgrade the trade from the community to the nation, the region, and the worldwide. Yet, the community economy was very vital to the growth of Laos economy. It was believed that when the economy was enhanced, the income of population also increased respectively.  This affected the higher standard of living of the population.
