Abstract

This research has the objectives to survey the media literacy of Thai monks, to study the intuitive thinking concepts related to media literacy of Thai monks and to analyze the relationship between Buddhist intuitive thinking and media literacy. This research uses the mix-method process. Data are analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis for 235 observations. The results indicate the average age of Thai monks in the sample of 24.02 years and average length of ordinations of 6.20 years. There are 110 monks and 125 novices in the sample. Most obtain junior high school diplomas or below. 157 of them posse supreme level of Dhamma scholar. Most of samples do not confer to Pali scholastic status. Level of media literacy is in “high” level according to media literacy components. The Dhamma applied most to the Buddhist intuitive thinking are Yoniso Manasikara and Kalama Sutra respectively. The result also shows the positive relationship between Buddhist intuitive thinking and media literacy. The t-test reveals that average media literacy of the advance group is significantly higher than the average media literacy of the basic group. According to the result of the multiple regression analysis, intuitive thinking, dummy variables of secularly knowledge, dummy variable of internet hour uses are significantly related to media literacy. In other words, it can be written as Media Literacy = 3.072 + 0.053 (Buddhist Intuitive Thinking) + 0.206(Dummy variable of secularly knowledge) + 0.245(Dummy variable of internet hour uses)
