The Hero's Journey in Mala Kamchan’s “The Valley of the Death”
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aims to: 1) analyze the hero's journey in Mala Kamchan’s novel “The Valley of the Death” according to Joseph Campbell’s Hero's Journey theory; and 2) explore the value of the hero’s journey in the novel. The study finds that the protagonist Bodin’s adventure cycle aligns with Joseph Campbell’s three stages: departure, initiation and return. The analysis of the hero’s journey in “The Valley of the Death” reveals the following values: demonstrating the growth and transformation of the character and providing a model for personal development through the character's confrontation with problems and obstacles.
