Abstract

The twin purposes of this study are to analyse the character of    Phra Sang in Sang Tong, a drama composed by King Rama II, according to the hero's Journey theory of Joseph Campbell, and to study the Paradoxical aspects of Phra Sang. The research utilized a documentary methodology and the results show that the character of Phra Sang conformed to Joseph Campbell’s theory of the hero’s journey in three facets: departure, initiation and return. The Paradoxical aspects of Phra Sang are that Phra Sang has     an ugly body but also displays virtue and abilities beyond those of normal humans and is decisiveness but also gentle and jovial.
