Development of an Online Training Program to Enhance Guidance Teachers’ Competency in Psychological Counseling Based on Client-Centered and Reality Therapy Approaches

The objectives of this research were: 1. to develop and evaluate the quality of an online training program designed to enhance guidance teachers’ competency in psychological counseling, based on Client-Centered and Reality Therapy approaches; and 2. to investigate the effectiveness of the implemented program. The study employed a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 43 guidance teachers under the Office of the Basic Education Commission during the 2025 academic year. The research instruments included: 1) the online training program, 2) a psychological counseling competency assessment scale based on Client-Centered and Reality Therapy approaches, and 3) an online training satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test.
The research findings revealed that: 1. The online training program comprised two modules, both of which were validated by psychological counseling experts. The quality evaluation indicated that the program’s accuracy and appropriateness were at the highest level. 2. Following the training, the guidance teachers demonstrated a statistically significant increase in psychological counseling competency compared to the pre-training scores at the .05 level. Furthermore, the overall satisfaction of the guidance teachers toward the online training program was at the highest level. The items with the highest mean scores, in descending order, were: the appropriateness and alignment of content with training objectives; the comprehensive coverage of Client-Centered and Reality Therapy concepts; the enhancement of guidance service skills; and the accessibility and convenience of the online learning system.
