Constructing English Reading Skill Practice Package Using Authentic Materials for Undergraduate English Majors of Bangkokthonburi University.

Abstract

          The purposes of this research were to  (1) construct English language reading skill practice package using authentic materials for undergraduate English majors of Bangkokthonburi University (2) make a comparison of the students’ English language reading achievement before and after being practicing English language reading skills using the constructed English language reading skill practice package  and (3) investigate the student’s satisfaction towards practicing English language reading skills using the constructed English language reading skill practice package.  The study sample were 40 sophomore English majors of Faculty of Liberal Arts, Bangkokthonburi University, selected by using simple random sampling. The research instruments included an English language reading skill practice package using authentic materials, learning management plans containing English language reading practice using authentic materials, an English language reading achievement test and a questionnaire to examine the students’ satisfaction towards the constructed English language reading skill practice package using authentic materials. The statistics used for analyzing the collected data were mean, standard deviation and t-test.

          The research results revealed that (1)  the constructed English language reading skill practice package using authentic materials attained the efficiency at a higher level than the 75/75 criteria required (2) after practicing English language reading skills using the constructed English language reading skill practice package using authentic materials, the undergraduate English majors gained a higher level of English language reading achievement than they did before the experimental teaching and (3) the students’ satisfaction towards practicing English language reading skills using the constructed English language reading skill practice package was at high level.
