Factors Affecting Work Stress Among Workers in Bang Sue District, Bangkok

Abstract

Background and Aims: Stress is a condition in which the body responds to pressure physically, mentally, and behaviorally. When stress arises from undesirable environments, people try to find ways to relieve it. Especially harmful levels of stress negatively affect work and reduce efficiency, which is the basis for this research aiming to study the issue: 1) To study the work factors of the working group in Bang Sue District, Bangkok; 2) To study the stress level of the working group in Bang Sue District, Bangkok.

Methodology: This research is quantitative. The sample group is 310 working group in Bang Sue District, Bangkok. The data collection tool is a questionnaire. Basic statistics used in the research include frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The statistics used for testing hypotheses are comparing the differences between 2 variables (Independent-Samples: t-test), comparing the differences between more than 2 variables using a one-way analysis of variance (One-way Analysis of Variance: One-way Anova: F-test), and for finding the relationship of the variables, Pearson Correlation is used.

Results: The research results found that factors affecting work stress the overall level is at a high level (\bar{x} = 3.85). When considering each aspect from most to least, as follows: In terms of job characteristics (\bar{x} = 3.94), organizational structure and atmosphere ( = 3.86), work relationships (\bar{x} = 3.83), career success and advancement (\bar{x} = 3.83), and roles and responsibilities in the organization (\bar{x} = 3.79). 3.) Stress level, the research results found that the overall stress level of the respondents was at a high level (\bar{x} = 3.72). When considering each aspect from most to least as follows: mental (\bar{x} = 3.78), physical (\bar{x} = 3.74), behavior (\bar{x} = 3.63), and 4.) Personal factors such as gender, job characteristics, status, and chronic diseases, different levels of stress, were found. As for age, education level, income, department of work, and number of family members to be cared for, different work factors had no effect on work stress, with statistical significance at the 0.05 level.

Conclusion: Work-related stress among people in the Bang Sue area arises from responses to undesirable physical and mental pressure, such as anger, confusion, or sadness. These negative emotions affect behavior and mental health, while calm emotions contribute positively to daily life. External factors such as the economy, society, and environment are also significant causes of stress that can impact mental well-being.
