Developing Infographic Media for Single Parents on Strengthening the Attachment of Early Childhood Children

Abstract

Background and Aims: Caring for and responding to the needs of infants and toddlers in the first three years of life by primary caregivers with consistent love is a critical factor in strengthening attachment between the child and the caregiver. This attachment is essential for the child’s development, growth, and overall well-being. In addition, current social trends show a rising number of single-parent households, which may impact the overall development of young children. The objectives of this research are: 1) to develop an infographic for single parents on strengthening attachment in early childhood, 2) to assess the quality of the infographic for single parents on strengthening attachment in early childhood 3) to evaluate the satisfaction of parents with the infographic for single parents on strengthening attachment in early childhood.

Methodology: The sample group consists of single parents with children aged 0–3 years who use private childcare services in Chiang Rai province, registered with the Department of Social Development and Human Security in the years 2023–2024. The sample includes 37 participants who are Thai nationals, have at least one electronic device with internet access, and have voluntarily agreed to participate. The sampling method used was purposive sampling. The research instruments include: 1) an infographic for single parents on “Strengthening Attachment with Infants and Toddlers”, developed by the researcher; 2) an assessment form for the quality of the infographic for single parents on “Strengthening Attachment with Infants and Toddlers”, evaluated by subject matter experts; and 3) an assessment form to measure the parents' satisfaction with the infographic on “Strengthening Attachment with Infants and Toddlers”. Data analysis was performed using percentages, mean, and standard deviation.

Results: The research findings are as follows: 1) The infographic for single parents on strengthening attachment in early childhood is based on the core concept of building a positive relationship with the child through the 'Eat, Hug, Play, Talk' approach from the Department of Mental Health and activities to reduce screen time 2) The quality of the infographic for single parents on strengthening attachment in early childhood, as evaluated by subject matter experts, has an average score of 4.75, indicating the highest quality 3) The satisfaction of parents with the infographic for single parents on strengthening attachment in early childhood has an average score of 4.1, indicating a high level of satisfaction.

Conclusion: The infographic for single parents on fostering attachment in early childhood, titled “Strengthening Attachment with Infants and Toddlers”, was developed based on the core concept of building a positive relationship with the child through the 'Eat, Hug, Play, Talk' approach from the Department of Mental Health, as well as activities to reduce screen time. The infographic was rated to have the highest quality, and parents expressed a high level of satisfaction.
