Abstract

The purposes of this research were: 1) to study the components of the system for designing and managing the teaching and learning Thai language using the professional learning community approach (PLC) for the student teachers under the teachers for local development project (TLD); and 2) to develop a system for designing and managing the teaching and learning Thai language through the PLC approach for the student teachers under the TLD project. The samples were obtained by a purposive sampling. They were divided into 2 groups: 1) a group of PLC consisting of 9 student teachers of Thai language under the TLD project, 7 school administrators, 9 mentors, and 2 supervisors; and 2) a group of 9 educational assessment experts in curriculum, in Thai language learning management design for the students at the basic education level, and in teaching and learning management using PLC approach. The research areas included 3 primary schools under the Office of Nakhon Phanom Primary Educational Service Area1, and 4 secondary schools under the Office of Nakhon Phanom Educational Service Area22. The instruments were the evaluation forms for Thai language learning management system, and for the development of the system for designing and managing the teaching and learning Thai language. The data was statistically analyzed using means (, standard deviations (S.D.), and percentages.

The results revealed that: 1) the components of the system for designing and managing the teaching and learning Thai language through PLC for the student teachers in TLD project consisted of 4 aspects: input factor covering curriculums, teachers, school administrators, students, and educational resources; procedural aspect comprising student analysis, establishment of learning objectives, content description, choice of instructional strategies, learning materials, learning activities, and learning assessments; product aspect involving students and teachers; and feedback aspect including reports with recommendation, and revision as suggested. The appropriateness dimension of the components was rated at the highest level in all aspects. 2) The development of the system for designing and managing the teaching and learning Thai language through PLC for the student teachers in TLD project demonstrated 6 components: working process using PLC approach including a common vision and values for creating collective leadership, learnings, exchange of knowledge, data collection process, student analysis, and collaboration in planning a learning management design; input factors covering curriculums, teachers, school administrators, and educational resources; procedural components comprising a student analysis, an establishment of learning objectives, a content description, a choice of instructional strategies, learning materials, learning activities, and learning assessments; product component involving students (higher learning achievement, and desirable characteristics as prescribed in the curriculum), and teachers (possession of knowledge and understanding of learning management through PLC approach, and ability in implementation of the learning management developed through PLC approach); feedback component relating to the report of the results with recommendations, and revision as suggested; and the component of Thai language teaching and learning management through PLC approach involving individual student data, learning objectives in response to the standards/ indicators/ individual student data, the content serving the learning objectives, the pedagogical strategies corresponding to the content and the students’ potentiality, learning materials matching with the content and the pedagogical strategies, student-centered learning management plans, methods for creating learning activities on a student-centered basis, and assessment tools meeting the learning objectives and contents. The system was evaluated at the high level for its feasibility, advantages, appropriateness, and correctness resulting in a system for designing and managing teaching and learning in Thai language by using the PLC.
