The Need Assessment to Promote Handball in Schools

Abstract
This study employed a needs assessment research design to investigate students’ priority needs for promoting handball in schools. The sample consisted of 403 athletes and students from schools participating in the National Student Handball Competition in January – March 2025. A questionnaire was utilized to assess both the current and expected situations regarding handball promotion. Data were analyzed using the Modified Priority Needs Index (PNI modified) to identify and rank the most critical factors.
The findings indicated that the highest need was related to handball facilities and equipment (PNI modified = 0.78), followed by budget allocation (PNI modified = 0.77), and management and administration (PNI modified = 0.68). Other needs included community networking and support (PNI modified = 0.057), curriculum and instructional management (PNI modified = 0.050), personnel development (PNI modified = 0.049), and public relations and motivation (PNI modified = 0.040).
These results highlight prioritized factors necessary for the effective promotion of handball in schools and provide a foundation for developing strategic guidelines and policies to support sustainable handball development at the school level.
