บทคัดย่อ

This study explored the effects of using the Kahoot! game-based learning platform on English vocabulary knowledge among third-year students enrolled in the English for Hotel Business course at Roi Et Rajabhat University. The study adopted a mixed-methods approach involving 29 third-year Business English students. Quantitative data were collected through pretest and posttest vocabulary assessments, while qualitative insights were obtained from post-intervention interviews. Vocabulary knowledge data were collected through multiple-choice tests administered before and after a four-week Kahoot! game-based learning program. Quantitative analysis revealed a statistically significant improvement in students’ vocabulary knowledge, with mean scores increasing from 10.21 (S.D. = 4.67) to 16.17 (S.D. = 3.84), t(28)
= 7.24, p < .001, with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.34). Interview findings suggested that students perceived greater comfort and confidence while participating in Kahoot! sessions. Many participants reported that using pseudonyms helped them feel less anxious and encouraged more active classroom participation. The findings provide empirical evidence that Kahoot! improves vocabulary knowledge while interview data suggest that the use of pseudonyms may help reduce perceived learning anxiety and encourage classroom engagement. The study highlights Kahoot! as a practical and engaging instructional tool and offers pedagogical implications for integrating gamified learning into ESP classrooms.
