Civic Political Culture and Political Communication Affecting Faith in Democracy of the People in Nakhon Pathom Province

Abstract

The objectives of the research were to 1) study the level of faith in democratic politics of people, 2) analyze civic political culture and political communication that affects people's faith in democratic politics, and 3) to propose guidelines for the development of democratic politics for the people in Nakhon Pathom Province.  Using mixed research methods, has questionnaire of 400 people using Taro Yamane's sample formula. Statistics used mean, standard deviation and multiple regression analysis. and used interview 14 person who were purposively selected.

The research found that 1) opinions about political culture and political communication was at a high level (=3.70, S.D.=1.015). Including the popular system, adhere to individuals more than principles, ranking status, traditional traditions, self-confidence, peace and compromise, attitudes, interest in politics, knowledge and understanding, and creating roles, respectively. 2) For opinions about the democratic political culture of the people was at a high level (=3.78, S.D.=0.817). The confidence and belief in the principles, adhere and believe in important principles and dignity of the person, Respect the rules of democratic governance, Participation in activities, having a sense of their civic duty and having confidence in yourself, Optimistic, Reason, and Not a dictator, respectively. 3) Results of analysis of factors of political culture and political communication affecting the democratic politics, adhering to individuals more than principles(X2), adhering to traditions(X4), creating political attitudes(X7), and creating political roles(X10) with regression coefficients of 0.612, 0.605, 0.502, and 0.405, respectively, having prediction coefficient (R2) equal to 0.722, able to predict results 72.2 percent. The statistically significant at the .05 level, multiple regression analysis equations could be written in terms of raw scores as =3.732+0.612(X2)+0.605(X4)+ 0.502(X7)+0.405(X10) and for the prediction equation in the form of standard scores, coefficient values of 0.758, 0.541, 0.324, and 0.312, respectively. The multiple regression analysis equation could be written in the form of standard scores as = 0.758(X2) + 0.541(X4)+0.324(X7)+0.312(X10), respectively.
