SERVICES MARKETING STRATEGIES AND THE DRAGON MODEL FOR SUSTAINABLY TRANSFORMING CULTURAL CAPITAL INTO SOFT POWER: INTEGRATING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN GASTRONOMY TOURISM IN YAOWARAT DISTRICT

This study examines how cultural capital is transformed into soft power in Yaowarat’s gastronomy tourism. The objectives are to: (1) analyze cultural capital and the socio-cultural tension between heritage authenticity and modern commercial adaptation; (2) examine the influence of services marketing mix dimensions on perceived soft power; and (3) propose strategic guidelines, through the DRAGON Model, for integrating artificial intelligence (AI) systems to create sustainability in the gastronomy cultural heritage area of Yaowarat District, Bangkok. Using an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design, Phase 1 conducted in-depth interviews with 10 purposively selected key informants. Phase 2 implemented a quantitative survey (n = 400) analyzed via Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM).
To fit the street-food context, the 7Ps were synthesized into 5 distinct latent constructs. The qualitative findings reveal socio-cultural tension and heritage risks, including the loss of “master chef” expertise and the threat of gentrification. The quantitative structural path analysis shows that Place & Physical Evidence (β = 0.382, p < 0.001), Promotion (β = 0.315, p < 0.001), and Product and Process (β = 0.290, p < 0.001) exert strong direct influences on perceived soft power. Notably, price perception has no statistically significant effect (β = 0.052, p = 0.395), indicating that destination soft power operates within an experience economy rather than price-sensitive dynamics. Perceived soft power demonstrates an exceptionally strong predictive effect on tourists’ revisit intentions (β = 0.795, p < 0.001), explaining 63.2% of its variance (R² = 0.632). This research proposes the DRAGON Model, which integrates AI technologies with an operational feasibility assessment and offers a strategic roadmap for developing Yaowarat into a sustainable, world-class smart heritage destination.
