Abstract

This research aims to examine the association between gender diversity on boards of directors, board composition – including board size, proportion of independent directors, CEO duality, and managerial ownership – and the capital structure of listed companies on the Stock Exchange of Thailand from 2020 to 2024. A total of 2,635 samples is used in the study. The researchers collect data from financial reports and annual reports. The data are analyzed using descriptive statistics, and the research hypotheses are tested using multiple regression analysis with a fixed-effect model.

The findings show that the sample companies have a capital structure consisting of debt and equity in roughly equal proportions. Testing the association between board composition and capital structure, the results indicate that managerial ownership is positively associated with capital structure at the .05 significance level, while the proportion of independent directors is negatively associated with capital structure at the .10 significance level. However, the research does not find an association between board size, CEO duality, or the proportion of female directors and capital structure.
