Handbook Developing in Upper Register on Trombone

Abstract

Handbook developing in upper register on trombone aimed to study the problems and obstacles of upper register on trombone for the development of the trombone practice handbook and study the learning achievement of students by using the trombone practicing handbook in upper register. This is a mixed method study which consists of qualitative 

research and quantitative research. Data were collected from teachers and trombone students in grade 1-6 of secondary schools in western music curriculum in total 4 schools. The study indicated that the sample group had problems with upper register performance so the researcher used the results of the study to develop a trombone practicing handbook in upper register in the topic of basic, techniques and practice methods of trombone’s the upper register training and finding the achievement of students learning by pre-test and post-test. The research found that Trombone students achievement in 3 schools using the trombone practicing handbook in upper register before practice less than 50 percent are in the improvement level (level 1) and trombone students in 1 school had achievement in less than 75 percent of the study is in a fair level (level 2). After evaluating the achievement and assessing the actual condition after practice (Post-test), it was found that the student's achievement by using the trombone practicing handbook in upper register after practice in the overall picture from the evaluation criteria of 3 components have a total grade point average of 75 percent in good level (level 3) Trombone students have developed even to practice the G4-Bb4 sound, which shows that the use of the trombone practicing handbook in upper register of the experimental group has developed to a good level (level 3).
