Participatory Management Problems of the World Heritage Site in the Historic City of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya

The objectives of this research were to 1) study participatory management problems of the world heritage site in the historic city of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, 2) to find a guideline for the participatory management of the world heritage site in the historic city of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya using qualitative research. There are 2 steps of conducting the research: 1) study participatory management problems of the world heritage site by using an in-depth interview of 5 relevant government departments total of 10 people, 2) find a guideline for the participatory management of the world heritage site by using a focus group of 5 relevant government departments total of 10 people. The result revealed that 1. the problems of management issues of the world heritage site in the historical city of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya are 6 main issues; 1) the area invasion, 2) lack of administration center and staffs for management, 3) the using land in the area of relevant agencies, 4) problems form local politics in the area, 5) budget for management and 6) law enforcement. 2. The guidelines for the participatory management to solve these problems consisted of; 1) clear and continuous policy and master plan for conservation and management of cultural and natural world heritage, 2) the special law to be enforced in the area, 3) establishment of a special agency to manage in the area, 4) power allocation to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province to manage all the sites based on the special law.
