EFFECTIVENESS OF BUILDING CONSTRUCTION IN MONASTERY OF ADMINISTRATIVE MONKS AT PHANATNIKHOM DISTRICT, CHONBURI PROVINCE

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1. to study the effectiveness of building construction in monasteries of administrative monks at Phanasnikom District, Chonburi Province, 2. to compare opinions of monks towards the effectiveness of building construction in monasteries at Panasnikom District, Chonburi Province and 3. to study problems, obstacles and recommendations for the effectiveness of building construction in monasteries at Phanasnikom District, Chonburi Province. 

Methodology was the mixed methods: The quantitative research collected data from 277 samples derived from the populations of 900 monks, using Taro Yamane’s formula with open and close ended questionnaires with reliability score at 0.759  and analyzed data with social research  analysis program with frequencies, percentiles, mean and standard deviation, t-test, F-test. 

The qualitative research collected data from 10 key informants with structured-in-depth-interview scripts. Data were analyzed by descriptive interpretation.

Findings were as follows:

1. Monk’s opinions toward the effectiveness of building construction in

monasteries at Phanasnikom District, Chonburi Province by overall were at high level ( = 4.12) . Opinions toward each aspect were also at high level; personnel administration, general budget and material administration respectively.

1. Monks’ pinions comparison towards the effectiveness of building construction in monasteries at Phanasnokom District, Chonburi Province were that monks with different ages, Dhamma and Pali education levels, formal education, administrative ranks, did not have different opinions toward the effectiveness of building construction in monasteries at Phanasnokom District, Chonburi Province, denying the set hypothesis. Only monks with different ordained yeas had different opinions towards the effectiveness of building construction in monasteries at Phanasnikom Disrict, Chonburi Province at statistical significant level at 0.05, accepting the set hypothesis.
2. Problems, obstacles of effectiveness of building construction
   In monasteries at Phanasnikom, Chonburi Province were that: 1) administrative monks lacked monasteries development plans paralleling with building construction in monasteries, 2) administrative monks did not make book-keeping record of building constructions, 3) administrative monks lacked facilities system in monasteries, 4) administrative monks lacked book-keeping  and did not categorizes heavy equipment and hardware. Recommendation: 1) administrative monks should have clear plan of monastery development along with building constructions in monasteries, 2) administrative monks should have book-keeping of building constructions 3) administrative monks should have facility system in monasteries and  4) administrative monks should have book-keeping and categorize materials, equipment and hardware.
