Abstract
The objectives of this research were 1) to investigate the context, problems, and essential needs for developing 21st-century leadership within the automotive industry in Samut Prakan Province; 2) to examine leadership concepts based on modern management science and Buddhist Peaceful Means; and 3) to propose a Model for developing 21st-century leadership through Buddhist Peaceful Means for the automotive industry in Samut Prakan Province. This study employed a qualitative research methodology, collecting data via in-depth interviews with 15 key informants, including experts in Buddhism and Buddhist Peaceful Means, senior executives in the automotive industry, and human resource management academics. Data were analyzed using content analysis and inductive reasoning.
The research findings indicated that 1) Current Context: Organizations in the VUCA and BANI World eras are confronted with leadership trust crises, volatility, digital disruption, and generational gaps. These factors create conflict and communication inefficiencies, making authoritarian leadership styles ineffective. 2) Developmental Guidelines: Leadership development should integrate Transformational Leadership with the Sappurisa-dhamma (Seven Qualities of a Great Man) and the Four Noble Truths to cultivate leaders who possess both wisdom and compassion. 3) Knowledge Contribution: The study identifies the TANAPORN Model, comprising eight core components, which are T (Truthfulness), A (Awareness/Mindfulness), N (Networking/Building Virtuous Friendships), A (Accountability), P (Participation), O (Openness), R (Respect), and N (Non-Violence). This Model serves as a management mechanism to foster leaders who are proficient in task execution, interpersonal relations, and strategic thinking, ultimately driving the organization toward sustainable growth and peaceful coexistence.
