Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Disappearances: Importance and Challenges
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article aims to analyze the enactment of the Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Disappearance Act B.E. 2565 (2022) in Thailand, which is an important step in protecting human rights in the dimensions of prevention, suppression, and compensation for victims of acts that violate human dignity resulting from torture or enforced disappearance, including improving the justice process and setting strict measures against state officials who violate the rights of citizens, with clear criminal penalties, as well as analyzing various dimensions resulting from the enactment of the above laws.
While the implementation of this law marks significant progress, it still faces challenges, such as resource shortages, the need to raise public awareness, and cooperation from various agencies. Therefore, the recommendations in this article emphasize that the Department of Rights and Liberties Protection should increase public education on human rights, ensure sufficient technological equipment for recording detentions, and provide training for state officials to enhance the effectiveness and transparency of law enforcement.
