Peaceful School: A Study and Development of Mediation on Process by Buddhist Integration of Ban Pho Wai School, Muaeng District, Suratthani Province

Abstract

This research article  have objectives 1) to study the conditions of problems, causes, and effects of students’ conflict of Ban Pho Wai school, Muaeng district, Suratthani province; 2) to study the mediation process of Justice Court and in Theravada Buddhism; and 3) to present the mediation process by Buddhist integration of Ban Pho Wai school, Muaeng district, Suratthani province. The study used mixed-method research of both qualitative and experimental research. The qualitative research involved documentary research and collected data from an in-depth interview for 25 cases focusing on the analysis of problems, causes and effects of students’ conflicts. The mediation process was created and developed based on the Buddhist integration. The process was applied for 10 case studies and analysis in description research. The research results were found as follows;


  1. conflicts of the secondary school students of Ban Pho Wai school consisted of two levels: verbal conflict and criminal battery which are caused by 1.1) The condition of the family that is poor or divorced, 1.2) Deviant behavior of children i.e. having prejudiced against one another, biasedly favoring one’s peer group, etc., 1.3) The social and environmental condition, and 1.4) The chemicals inside the body.

2.There are similarities and differences in the dispute resolution in civil cases of Courts of Justice and Buddhist means of mediation. The similarity is the process of the solution of the disputes, a third person assistance to cease the dispute. The difference is due to the different step of process.


3. The presentation of mediation by the Buddhist integration of Ban Pho Wai school, Muaeng district, Suratthani province consisted of 6 main steps as follows: 1) The preparation of readiness and trust building; 2) Having mindfulness and emotional adjustment; 3) The analysis and finding of the causes of conflicts; 4) Conflict management; 5) The finding of a solution or mutual agreement; and 6) The strengthening of relationships by letting both parties do the activity together.
