Characteristic Factors Associated with the Research Performance of Faculty Members Appointed to Academic Positions for Promoting Personnel Excellence at the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Prince of Songkla University
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Faculty of Liberal Arts, Prince of Songkla University has implemented Education Criteria for Performance Excellence (EdPex) to establish its quality standards. One of the criteria is to develop the lecturers’ capacity and to promote their academic advancement. The aim of this study was to examine characteristics associated with the research performance of the faculty members who achieved academic promotion, resulting in excellent personnel outcomes. This quantitative study employed purposive sampling by selecting the research work of 19 faculty members who received academic promotion from 2018 to 2024. Data were collected using a Secondary Data Record Form and analyzed by descriptive statistics and the Cramér's V test.
The results showed a direct correlation between the characteristics and the research performance. The departments in which the participants worked were significantly associated with the publication tiers of academic journals (Cramér's V=.799). The work experience, the academic positions, the educational levels, and the departments in which the participants worked were moderately correlated with the research grants (Cramér's V=.522, .531, .445, .445). The educational levels were also moderately correlated with involvement in publishing academic work (Cramér's V=.453). This study demonstrated that the specialization of the faculty members was a key characteristic influencing academic promotion, as supported by the research grants and other related variables. Therefore, achieving academic promotion in accordance with EdPex should not rely solely on individual effort; however, it is recommended that the faculty actively facilitate academic development and scholarly publications to ensure the long-term success of the organization.
