Transforming Academic Leadership through Knowledge Management Innovation: Model Development and Evaluation in Private Universities
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to (1) develop and validate a Knowledge Management (KM)–based Academic Leadership Model (AKL Model), (2) empirically assess the influence of KM-integrated academic leadership on academic administrative effectiveness, and (3) determine the model's practical applicability within private and international universities in Thailand. A three-phase mixed-methods methodology was employed. The initial phase involved synthesising relevant literature and expert opinions to construct and validate the AKL Model. The following phase investigated the relationship between KM-integrated leadership and academic administrative effectiveness, employing quantitative data collected from university executives. The final phase included a pilot implementation to evaluate the model's feasibility, utility, propriety, and accuracy in practical application.
The study's findings suggest that the AKL Model offers a holistic structure for comprehending academic leadership, grounded in three interrelated domains: leadership characteristics, proficiencies, and actions. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that academic leadership, when informed by knowledge management tenets, substantially enhances the efficacy of academic administration. The initial implementation further validates the AKL Model's applicability and appropriateness for application within higher education management. Consequently, this research presents a validated KM-based academic leadership framework, delivering both theoretical significance and practical direction for enhancing academic administration in private and international universities.
