A Guidelines for Enhancing Industry 4.0 Skills for Technicians in the Smart Electronics Industry

Abstract
The purpose of this research article was to develop guidelines to enhance Industry 4.0 skills among technicians in the smart electronics industry. This study utilized an action research methodology to promote experiential learning among technicians and enable them to adapt their work behaviors to align with operations in Industry 4.0. The co-researcher group consisted of 11 technicians who participated in learning and skill-development activities through in-depth interviews, group meetings, and practical training in simulated environments that resembled actual work settings. Qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis.
The research findings revealed that the guidelines for enhancing Industry 4.0 skills for technicians comprised a development process of three interconnected phases: (1) the pre-implementation phase, aimed at building trust, mutual understanding, and participation to create psychological readiness and a conducive learning atmosphere; (2) the implementation phase, focusing on experiential learning through hands-on action within a safe and open learning environment, where the researcher functioned as a learning facilitator rather than an instructor; and (3) the post-implementation phase, aimed at follow-up monitoring and positive reinforcement to encourage the actual application of knowledge in the work system. These three phases are integrated into a skill enhancement framework driven by three core dimensions: the human dimension (grounded in trust and understanding), the learning process dimension (focused on hands-on practice, exchange, and reflection), and the work system dimension (supporting monitoring and organizational scaling). This framework led to a dynamic learning system that helps technicians continuously, flexibly, and sustainably develop both technical and human skills, serving as an essential guideline to elevate the competency of the Thai workforce in adapting to transformations within the smart industry era.
