Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aimed to: (1) examine the level of participatory political culture among residents in Na Kaeo Subdistrict, Ko Kha District, Lampang Province; (2) compare public opinions on participatory political culture based on personal factors; and (3) propose guidelines for promoting participatory political culture in accordance with Buddhist principles. A mixed-methods approach was employed. For the quantitative part, Yamane’s formula was used to determine a sample size of 376 from a population of 6,026 eligible voters. Data were analyzed using frequency, mean, standard deviation, and inferential statistics including t-test, F-test, and one-way ANOVA. For the qualitative part, in-depth interviews were conducted with 10 key informants from four groups: two scholars or practitioners in religion, two in political science, four community leaders, and two local politicians.
The research findings indicated that: 1) the overall level of participatory political culture among residents in Na Kaeo Subdistrict was high ( = 3.93), 2) a comparison of opinions based on personal factors revealed statistically significant differences at the 0.05 level regarding gender, age, education level, and average monthly income. No significant difference was found based on occupation, and 3) promoting participatory political culture through the Six Principles of Sārāṇīyadhamma was identified as a key approach to fostering civic awareness and encouraging meaningful participation.
