The Participation of Sarad Temple’s Novices in Creating Online Dhamma Media According to Buddhist Peaceful Means
Main Article Content
Abstract
The study had the following objectives: 1) to analyze problems, context, and contributing factors that support the participation of novice monks at Wat Sarod in the creation of online Dhamma media; and 2) to present the outcomes of novice monks’ participation in creating online Dhamma media following Buddhist peaceful methods. The study employed an action research methodology and collected qualitative data through in-depth interviews with key informants. The research involved conducting participatory activities using the PAOR technique. Data collection tools included opinion questionnaires and observation forms. The qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis.
The research findings indicate the following: 1) The novice monks lacked sufficient communication skills for collaborative media production. There were also deficiencies in media planning and analysis, and the absence of a designated space for media team development. To address these challenges, a participatory learning environment was established—emphasizing skill-building, value awareness, and inclusive communication through a “senior guiding junior” model. The novice monks should be given opportunities to develop themselves in areas such as technology, communication, and practical Dhamma dissemination. This hands-on experience not only enhanced their capabilities but also strengthened laypeople’s faith in the temple, making it a suitable model for Dhamma propagation at Wat Sarod. Support for high-quality learning in media editing, still photography, and aerial photography was provided, with a focus on creating a “participatory learning space” that shapes positive attitudes and promotes a sense of pride in their role as online Dhamma media producers. 2) The PAOR fieldwork to present the participation of novice monks at Wat Sarod in creating online Dhamma media based on Buddhist peaceful principles was divided into three phases: Phase 1 refers to Preparation; Phase 2 refers to Implementation; and Phase 3 refers to Collaboration. Each phase culminated in the development of a research framework called the Pioneer Model. This model represents the participation of Wat Sarod’s novice monks in creating online Dhamma media according to Buddhist peaceful principles, based on seven core components.
