A Study of Cultural Capital for the Development of Community Products to Create Social Value in Yang Sak Krapho Lum Subdistrict, Muang Sam Sip District, Ubon Ratchathani Province

Abstract

This research article aims to: 1) examine the cultural capital of Yang Sak Krapho Lum subdistrict, Muang Sam Sip district, Ubon Ratchathani province, 2) explore strategies for promoting, preserving, and disseminating the cultural capital of Yang Sak Krapho Lum subdistrict, Muang Sam Sip district, Ubon Ratchathani province and 3) develop community products using cultural capital. This study is conducted as research and development (R&D) with a purposive sampling technique applied to select a sample group of 30 participants. Research tools included interviews, focus group discussions, and assessment forms, and the data were analyzed using content analysis.


The results revealed that studying cultural capital for development of community products to create social value led to following key findings: 1) Cultural capital in Yang Sak Krapho Lum subdistrict is divided into two types: intangible cultural capital, which includes customs, traditions, local legends, and rites, and tangible cultural capital, which includes handicrafts and agricultural practices. 2) Strategies for promoting, preserving, and disseminating the cultural capital of Yang Sak Krapho Lum community are structured around three main components: (1) Goals, including the collection of social and cultural data and products derived from cultural capital; (2) Processes, involving preservation, restoration, product development, knowledge transfer, and further research; and (3)Success Factors, such as a comprehensive database, community participation, and locally produced products. 3) Community product development through cultural capital was achieved by integrating cultural capital into product innovation, where local organic rice was used as a raw material in the production of *khaotan*, a traditional rice snack. The final product, branded as "Yang Sak Organic Khao Tan," represents a unique community product created through community collaboration, fostering community unity and pride.
