Abstract

This research article has three main objectives: 1. To study and analyze the context, problems, obstacles, and challenges in propagating Buddhism by the Council of Thai Bhikkhus in the United States, as well as the concepts and principles of propagation according to contemporary innovations. 2. To examine and analyze Buddhist peaceful means that facilitate the propagation of Buddhism by the Council of Thai Bhikkhus in the United States. 3. To propose a process for propagating Buddhism by the Council of Thai Bhikkhus in the United States through Buddhist peaceful means. This qualitative research was conducted by interviewing 20 key informants.

Research Findings: 1. The propagation of Buddhism by the Council of Thai Bhikkhus in the United States faces several challenges, such as a lack of understanding of target groups, inadequate communication skills, and the use of outdated language and teaching methods that do not align with contemporary contexts. Legal and cultural barriers also pose significant obstacles. Solutions include diversifying propagation methods, such as collaborating with international temples, publishing Buddhist books, broadcasting Dharma content via radio and online platforms, and organizing meditation groups. Initiatives should align with the policy of “casting the net far, uniting all directions, fostering global friendships, managing with wisdom, and nurturing others” to promote mutual understanding and international cooperation. 2. The Ovāda-pāṭimokkha is the core principle upheld by Thai missionaries, consisting of: Three Principles: Refraining from evil, doing good, and purifying the mind. Four Ideals: Patience, tolerance, non-harm, peace in body, speech, and mind, with Nirvana as the ultimate goal. Six Methods: Avoiding harsh speech and harm, maintaining conduct that inspires trust, respecting rules, customs, and traditions, practicing moderation, living in suitable environments, and cultivating mental tranquility with efficiency. These principles guide Thai missionaries toward achieving the objectives of Buddhism. 3. The propagation process by the Council of Thai Bhikkhus in the United States, employing Buddhist peaceful means, resulted in the RPCCC MODEL: Receiver: Analyzing the audience. Planning: Strategic planning of propagation. Concept: Defining conceptual frameworks. Content: Developing relevant and meaningful content. Communication: Effective communication for propagation. This model constitutes a new body of knowledge that enhances the work of overseas missionaries, the Council of Thai Bhikkhus in the United States, individuals, organizations, communities, society, and the nation.
