The Development of Health Promotion Model through New Normal Tourism Practices for the Elderly People in Pattaya City, Chonburi Province

Abstract

This research is a mixed-methods study aimed at developing a health promotion model through new normal tourism practices for elderly people in Pattaya City, Chonburi Province, and examining the effects of implementing this health promotion model. The research was conducted in two phases: 1) the development of the health promotion model through new normal tourism practices for elderly people in Pattaya City, Chonburi Province, and 2) the evaluation of the effects of the health promotion model through new normal tourism practices for elderly people in Pattaya City, Chonburi Province. The research tools used were interviews and questionnaires, with content validity in an IOC value of 0.87. The statistics used in the study included percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The target population consisted of elderly individuals aged 60 years and older from elderly schools in Pattaya City who were at risk or suffering from five chronic non-communicable diseases: diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, totaling 33 participants. These participants were selected using a non-probability sampling method through purposive sampling.


          The research findings revealed that: 1. the health promotion model through new normal tourism practices for elderly people in Pattaya City, Chonburi Province, consists of six components: 1) problems and needs, 2) principles of the model, 3) objectives of the model, 4) components of the model, 5) experiential learning activities, and 6) conditions for the implementation of the model. Experts evaluated the propriety of the model and found it to be of high quality, suitable for use in health promotion initiatives. It can effectively enhance knowledge, attitudes, and self-care skills among elderly individuals, contributing to their overall health and well-being. 2. The elderly participants showed a decrease in average weight, waist circumference, body mass index, and blood pressure after the experiment. In terms of health behavior, the elderly demonstrated good behavior following the implementation of the model. Their knowledge regarding adherence to the model significantly increased after the experiment, with the results showing a statistically significant difference at the 0.05 level. The elderly’s overall satisfaction with the health promotion model was at a very high level. Additionally, the elderly's behavior in daily activities, as per the health promotion model, showed an average score at a good level after using the model for eight weeks.
