Abstract
The study entitled “Management Models of Monastic Residences for the Rehabilitation and Health Restoration of Elderly Monks in Thai Society” is a mixed-method research aimed at exploring monastic residence management, identifying management models, and developing a model for the management of monastic residences to facilitate the rehabilitation and health restoration of elderly monks in Thai society. The population for this study consists of 40 monks residing in temples within Nakhon Pathom Province. The research tools used in the study include two sets of questionnaires. The first set is designed for monks, while the second set is used for interviews with elderly monks, their caregivers, and experts in managing monastic residences for elderly monks.
Research findings revealed that:1)The condition of monastic residences for the rehabilitation and health restoration of elderly monks was assessed in two aspects. For the interior of the monks’ quarters, it was found that most were two-story structures. The bathrooms were attached. For the exterior of the quarters, the walkways were concrete and free of obstructions or ramps. 2) The key elements of interior management include and exterior maintaining cleanliness, organization, good ventilation, and adequate lighting to make the quarters suitable for living. 3) The development of suitable monastic residences for elderly monks could be divided into three main areas: 1Support the improvement and development of monastic residences to meet the needs of elderly monks or design new models specifically for them.2Promote the establishment of dedicated units responsible for the comprehensive care of elderly monks.3Encourage collaboration among related organizations to create a network for caring for elderly monks in temples.
