Development of a Prototype Health Promotion Temple in Nonthaburi Province

Abstract
The research article consisted of the following objectives: 1) to investigate healthcare of temples and communities in Nonthaburi province; 2) to develop a prototype health promotion temple in Nonthaburi province; and 3) to analyze the guidelines for the development of a prototype health promotion temple in Nonthaburi province. The study utilized qualitative research and action research approaches. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 19 participants, focus group discussions with 16 participants, and participatory observation. The collected data were analyzed using an inductive method.
From the study, the following results were found: 1) The study revealed that activities promoting well-being based on the ‘5R’ principle significantly impact the health care of temples and communities in Nonthaburi province. Suggestions include building small parks or playgrounds to encourage exercise within neighborhoods, promoting health by fostering connections within the community, and establishing learning areas for yoga or meditation to support mental health. Additionally, health camps should be organized to promote health care and strengthen community cooperation, and the environment should be made conducive to exercise. These initiatives collectively contribute to improving both physical and mental health within the communities, significantly enhancing people's quality of life. 2) The development of a prototype health promotion temple in Nonthaburi province involves collaboration among monks, community members, community leaders, and public health officers to promote healthy food consumption and exercise, contributing to improved health care for individuals and their families. Encouraging the consumption of nutritious foods, such as those suitable to an individual’s body type or element, and recommending age-appropriate exercises can help prevent diseases and enhance overall well-being. 3) The guidelines for the development of a prototype health promotion temple in Nonthaburi province include the following: cleanliness and a shady environment, of which the environment should be preserved by reducing waste and pollution in the community; tranquility and awareness, of which a peaceful atmosphere should be fostered by raising awareness, with monks serving as role models; collaborative healthcare, of which waste sorting should be promoted to reduce pollution and combat global warming; collaborative art, of which a new knowledge should be applied to solve problems and encourage adaptability; and collaborative development, of which a positive mindset should be cultivated to enhance individual well-being. To achieve happy and holistic well-being, fostering a positive mindset is essential.
