Abstract

This research article aimed to achieve the following objectives: 1) to examine the context and requirements for developing peace innovation for creative public communication by lawyers, 2) to analyze the concepts, modern science, and Buddhist principles of peace that contribute to the development of peace innovation for creative public communication by lawyers, and 3) to develop and propose a process for implementing peace innovation in creative public communication by lawyers. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, including a pilot study, in-depth interviews with 13 participants, focus group discussions with 5 experts, and a trial group of 11 lawyers. Data were collected using participatory observation assessment forms and After-Action Review (AAR) techniques. Statistical analysis, including t-tests, was used to compare mean values, while results were summarized narratively.

The study yielded the following findings: 1) The current context reveals several pressing challenges in public communication by lawyers, particularly through various media, with social media being the most widely accessible. Key issues include the spread of inappropriate news and interviews, the use of foul language, attacks on opposing lawyers, and the dissemination of self-proclaimed legal information. These behaviors not only breach ethical standards but also tarnish the reputation of the legal profession. 2) The concepts, modern theories, and Buddhist principles of peace that contribute to the development of peace innovation for creative public communication by lawyers include: (1) the concept of communication ethics theory, and (2) the concept of mindful communication theory. When integrated with Buddhist peace principles, such as sappurisa-dhamma (the Seven Qualities of a Good Person), right speech, and wise speech, these modern communication theories can help lawyers engage in creative and ethical public communication. 3) The development of peace innovation in creative public communication by lawyers is facilitated through the design of a participatory workshop training program, which covers the following key areas: (1) Mindfulness, (2) Self-awareness, (3) Creative communication that aligns with legal ethics, (4) Taking responsibility for contributing to society, (5) Applying wisdom in the use of online media to create value and benefits, and (6) Professional development.
