A Structural Equation Model of Spiritual Leadership Based on Buddhadhamma of Morality-Teacher Monks

Abstract

The article, part of the research titled ‘A Structural Equation Model of Spiritual Leadership Based on Buddhadhamma for Morality-Teaching Monks,’ had the following objectives: 1) to investigate the components of a structural equation model of spiritual leadership based on Buddhadhamma for morality-teaching monks; 2) to develop and validate the structural equation model; and 3) to evaluate the model. The study employed a quantitative research method to extend the findings of prior qualitative research. Data were analyzed using Pearson's Correlation Coefficient to verify the model's Goodness of Fit (GoF) with empirical data. Direct and indirect effects were examined using the LISREL program. The sample group consisted of 390 participants.


From the study, the following findings were found: 1) The components of a structural equation model of spiritual leadership based on Buddhadhamma for morality-teaching monks include desirable characteristics of morality-teaching monks, leadership development methods, Tisikkhā (the threefold learning), and spiritual leadership based on Buddhadhamma for morality-teaching monks; 2) A causal relationship model has good Goodness of Fit (GoF) with empirical data (Chi-square = 45.23, df = 35, p = 0.1154, GFI = 0.986, AGFI = 0.944, RMR = 0.0196); and 3) A structural equation model of spiritual leadership based on Buddhadhamma for morality-teaching monks demonstrates propriety, accuracy, feasibility, and utility. The body of knowledge obtained from the study is referred to as the 'Monk Model,' which is easy for morality-teaching monks to implement in practice.
