Attributes of Multicultural Leadership for Chief Subdistrict Officer in Southern Border Provinces of Thailand

Abstract

The research article aimed at investigating the attributes of multicultural leadership for chief subdistrict officers who are also subdistrict leaders in the southern border provinces of Thailand. The study employed a qualitative research method. A sample group consisted of 34 people: 1) district chiefs who are also subdistrict leaders and work in the southern border provinces; 2) scholars and executive officers active in policy implementation in the area; and 3) religious leaders, including Buddhists and Muslims. The data were collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions using a semi-structured interview form and discussion points tailored to the research objectives. The collected data were examined using content analysis and interpretation to develop a summary and findings.


According to the study, there are five important attributes of multicultural leadership for chief subdistrict officers who are also subdistrict leaders in Thailand's southern border provinces: trust building, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and King's philosophy. These attributes will help subdistrict chiefs perform more efficiently and effectively. They are also crucial in fostering reconciliation and peace within areas, particularly in Thailand's southern border provinces, which are renowned for their multiculturalism.
