The Development of a Drug Prevention Model for Students in Higher Educational Institutions in the Northeast Region

Abstract

The objectives of this research article were 1) to study the operational conditions of a drug prevention for students in higher educational institutions in the northeast region, 2) to develop a drug prevention model for students in higher educational institutions in the northeast region, 3) to evaluate the drug prevention model for target students in higher educational institutions in the northeast region. Phase 1 was the sample used in the study consisting of 152 personnel involved in drug prevention operations for students in higher educational institutions in the northeast region. They were obtained by a purposive sampling. Phase 2 was 15 experts in the development of drug prevention model in higher educational institutions and related government agencies. Additionally, phase 3 was the target group that consisted of 18 knowledgeable and experienced experts in drug prevention in higher educational institutions. In fact, the research instruments included questionnaires, interviews, and focus groups. The statistics used in data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation, and the content analysis.


The research findings revealed as follows: 1) The operating conditions of drug prevention for students in the higher educational institutions in the northeast region has been implemented. The highest average was a survey of drug problems in higher educational institutions in the northeastern region (gif.latex?\bar{x} = 3.45). 2) The development of the drug prevention model for students in higher educational institutions in the northeast region consisted of 4 components: principles, objectives, methods, and the success conditions. The component 1: the principle was the drug prevention in higher educational institutions through the cooperation of relevant government agencies. The component 2: the objectives were to prevent drug problems in higher educational institutions and enhance knowledge and understanding for either the students or related personnel. The component 3: the operations consisted. The component 4: the conditions for success included the higher educational institutions provided strategic plans for preventing and solving drug problems. In fact, the budgets were allocated to support the committees and related working groups, and also create a network of cooperation from many sectors through the process of overseeing, linking, forwarding, following up on cooperation from relevant government agencies and private agencies, including the local community. In addition, 3) the results of evaluating the development of the drug prevention model for students in higher educational institutions in the northeast region were appropriate and feasible at a high level.
