Abstract

The research article consisted of the following objectives: 1) to investigate the components and explore the efficiency of a science activity package using the learning center teaching method with an engineering design process in order to promote engineering design skills for the 6th year elementary school students; and 2) to explore the results of using a science activity package using the learning center teaching method with an engineering design process in order to promote engineering design skills for the 6th year elementary school students of Wat Sunthonphittharam School. The study employed a quasi-experimental research method. The tools used were a science activity package using the learning center teaching method with an engineering design process, learning achievement test, and satisfaction survey. The statistics used for data analysis were mean, standard deviation, and t-test.

From the study, the following results are found: 1) A science activity package consists of seven components, which are (1) teacher instructions or manual for using the activity package, (2) learning management plans, (3) explanation, clarification, or instructions for use, (4) content, (5) exercise, activity card or name tag, (6) learning evaluation form, and (7) learning media and materials. When examining the efficiency of activity package, the results show that each package has a mean score of 4.93, indicating the propriety at the highest level. 2) The results of using a science activity package are as follows: 2.1) The comparison of the pre-test and post-test of the learning achievement of students after using the learning center teaching method with an engineering design process reveals that the post-test is higher than the pre-test with a mean score of 6.64; 2.2) The comparison of the pre-test and post-test of students’ engineering design skills after using a science activity package shows that the post-test is higher than the pre-test with a mean score of 6.24; and 3) Student satisfaction with the organization of learning activities has an overall mean value of 4.41, which is at a high level.
