The Competency Development of Model Volunteers for Social Development and Human Security by Peace Innovation

Abstract
The research article consisted of the following objectives: 1) to analyze context, problems, needs, and the Buddhist peaceful means conducive to competency development of social development and human security volunteers; and 2) to present peace innovation for competency development of social development and human security volunteers in Pathum Thani Province. The study used a mixed-method approach that comprised qualitative and quantitative methods, including a pilot experiment. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 27 people, focus group discussions with 6 people, and experimental volunteer groups with 14 people. The experiment was assessed by competency test, participatory observation, and after action review. T-test statistics was used to analyze the obtained data.
From the study, the following results were found: 1) Volunteer leaders of social development and human security in Pathum Thani province should develop themselves by recognizing one’s value, positive communication, using laws and people’s rights, participation in community analysis and community mapping, problem-solving with networks and communities, competency enhancement concept, and volunteer development. The Buddhist peaceful means include Saṅgahavatthu (four bases of social solidarity) together with a willingness to give; Ariyasacca (the four noble truths) in conjunction with analytical and comprehensive thinking; and Vuḍḍhi-dhamma (virtues conducive to growth) in conjunction with adaptability in the new normal; and 2) Peace innovation for competency development of social development and human security volunteers in Pathum Thani Province include a course of 3 days duration and a 1-month field study with 5 modules. The model social development and human security volunteers have competency level of posttest higher than pretest, with a statistical significance of 0.05 with t-test equal to 7.83. A body of knowledge from the study is ‘Spirit Model of Social Development and Human Security Volunteers,’ which is used in other 7 districts as well.
