Communication Guidelines for Organizational Personnel of Different Ages Based on Buddhist Peaceful Means

Abstract

The research article consisted of the following objectives:1) to explore the communication context and problems of personnel of different ages at the Government Division, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Health, as well as Buddhist peaceful ways favorable to communication among personnel of different ages; and 2) to present the communication guidelines for organizational personnel of different ages based on Buddhist peaceful means for the Government Division, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Health. The study used a qualitative research technique, collecting data through a field study and in-depth interviews with 14 personnel of generation B, X, Y, and Z at the Office of the Permanent Secretary. The obtained data were analyzed by inductive method.


From the research, it is found the followings: The communication guidelines for organizational personnel of different ages based on Buddhist peaceful means for the Government Division, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Health are as follows: 1) Using loving kindness, humility, relevance, and sincerity in communication to avoid problems brought on by the age gap between message senders and recipients; and 2) When there is a conflict among personnel of different ages in the organization, communicating informally, showing respect for one another, and allowing a platform for opinion expression. A body of knowledge acquired from the study is the guidelines for organizational personnel communication based on right speech, right mindfulness, and the principles of participation so that people can coexist peacefully in the society. The model gained is called ‘A-T-T-I-T-U-D-E’ which consists of: ‘A’ stands for Advice on good things that are useful to listeners.; ‘T’ stands for Telling politely and pleasantly without causing conflicts; ‘T’ stands for Teaching personnel how to take action, which is the responsibility of supervisors to teach their subordinates by telling the truth and refraining from rude remarks and lies; ‘I’ stands for Integrating work from each department to promote unity and solidarity; ‘T’ stands for Trust as a basis of communication; ‘U’ stands for Understanding in organizational personnel of different ages; ‘D’ stands for Determination to lead teams to the set goals; and ‘E’ stands for Empathy as a basis of communication in order to encourage each other, motivate one another to work, and communicate with loving-kindness.
