The Factors Effecting the Acceptance of North Bangkok Power Plant

Abstract

The purpose of this research were 1) the level of community perception, community trust, community leadership roles, community participation, and the acceptance of the North Bangkok power plant. 2) the factor of community perception and trust, the roles of community leadership, and the community participation that affected the acceptance for the North Bangkok Power Plant and 3) the guidelines for creating a model for power plant acceptance. Mixed-method research was design. For the quantitative method, the sample group consists of 300 residents of the Bang Kruai municipality area that selected through stratified random sampling based on the proportion of Bang Kruai residents. The sample size was used 20 times the criteria of the observable variable. Data were collected by using questionnaires and analyzed by using a structural equation model. For the qualitative method, in-depth interviews have been conducted with eight important information providers that consist of Bang Kruai District Chief, Bang Kruai Municipality Mayor and six community leaders.


          Result indicated that 1) community awareness and confidence, the role of community leadership, the acceptance of the North Bangkok power plant from the community are at high levels. 2) the roles of community leadership, community participation, community trust, and perception had a direct positive influence on the acceptance of North Bangkok power plants, respectively. and 3) Get the power plant acceptance model. The research result is useful for EGAT’s executives to apply the power plant acceptance model as a guideline for power plant construction. Administrators should focus on the role of community leaders both prestige and the credibility of the leaders as well as the community attitude, public relations, and friendly communication will lead to the acceptance of the power plant construction.
