Management, Supporting Policy, Location’s Potential and Regional Connection that affecting the Special Economic Zone Development

Abstract

This research article has 2 objectives: 1) To study current stage of the special economic zone development; 2) To examine the influence of management, supporting policy, location’s potential and regional connection on the special economic zone development. The research employed a mixed research methodology combining quantitative and qualitative methods. In the quantitative component consisted of 300 of the people who lived in Chiang Khong, Chiang Rai province selected by cluster random sampling from a population in 7 sub-districts. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed with descriptive statistics and a structural equation model. For the qualitative research part, in-depth interviews with 8 key informants were selected via purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using content analysis. The research findings indicated that: 1) In the current stage, there were areas determine for the special economic zone development but there was not clearly the division of each industry types and there was not the local organization management participation. The respondents perceived management, supporting policy, location’s potential and regional connection had important for the success of the special economic zone development 2) Management, supporting policy, and regional connection had an influence on the special economic zone development, with a .01 level of statistical significance. Moreover, the regional connection was found to have the most positive direct influence on the special economic zone development. These finding benefits for the government to special economic zone development. In the public participation and provide efficiency of transportation and cargo system, using data and information and one-stop service. In term of policy flexibility, financial and tax funding and support the investor to increased FDI. Contribute to the center of tourism and expand trading zone especially border trade zone for the special economic zone development successful in the future.
