Abstract
“The Buddha’s Science” is the Buddha’s knowledge discovered and laid down in Tipitaka can be seen from the past till the present. This paper aims to present the integration of the Buddha’s science and psychological counseling. It was found that the Buddhist psychological counseling is the process of hearing or learning from others (Paratoghosa) integrated with the Buddha’s teachings to heal people who have either bodily or mental sufferings at three levels, namely, 1) to know the suffering, 2) to heal the suffering, and 3) to enhance the sustainable happiness. The Buddhist psychological counselors have to develop themselves to have six characteristics: 1) good character, 2) sweet speech, 3) firm mind, 4) even and equal treatment, 5) to find out the differences, and 6) to have compassion for human beings; and three virtues: 1) the four divine states of
mind (Brahmavihàra), 2) the four objects of sympathy (Saïgahavatthu), and 3) the seven qualities of a good man (Sappurisadhamma). The tools of the Buddhist psychological counseling are 1) the four Noble Truths (Cattàri Ariyasaccàni), and 2) Systematic Attention (Yonisomanasikàra). There are two processes of Buddha’s science and western psychological counseling to heal the mental problems sustainably.
